The O visa is for highly talented or acclaimed foreign nationals. The visa is particularly suitable for exceptional artists, athletes, entertainers, high-end chefs, and business people lacking professional degrees. Applied to those other than artists and entertainers, the “extraordinary” standard entails a high standard of ability “demonstrated by sustained national and international acclaim.” Artists and entertainers may be required to show a “demonstrated record of extraordinary achievement”. There are no visa duration limits, wage maintenance feature, or cap with the O visa classification. A high burden of evidence is imposed.

P visas are suitable for artists and athletes entering the United States on a trip of limited duration. Such individuals must meet a basic standard of international recognition i.e. well known in more than one country and substantially above the ordinary.
